When my musician friend John Krause asks me to take photos of him for a magazine, I was happy to do the job.
I have known John for two to three years now. I first met John when he was working on an app for homeless people. He had at one point become homeless when he was younger. He wanted to do something for people who have the least. Needless to say, he is a very compassionate person.
John has been interested in music and computers at an early age. He lived in L.A for a couple of years to pursue music. He was not feeling the music community there and moved to SF. He taught himself computer science and later started to work for Open Table on software development.
At the height of his career, he was making a six figure salary, but something is missing. He left his job, moved out of his apartment and lived in an RV now. I have deep respect for John because he has lived up to his values. I don’t think everyone should quit their jobs, but too many people are not happy with their lives and too afraid to make a change.
It takes a lot of courage to follow your heart and carve out a path that is true and fulfilling to you. You may have to give away some security and comfort, but the struggle is worth it.
Take a look of the interview with John on Outsiders’ mag. And Don’t forge to check out John’s music.
